Now that's when you guys ask me - "Asagoth, you stupid piece of s*#?&!t... Why are you uploading graffiti fanzines to Retro CDN?" ... Well ... those two German guys, Erik Mahnkopf (a.k.a Steak) and Malte Nickau (a.k.a. Kobolt), who graffited the Champion Train '93 were both born in 1975 in East Berlin... the German graffiti scene started in West Berlin in the late 80s when young grafitti writers started "Bombing" (that's what they call it) trains with their graffiti tags... after the fall of The Berlin Wall in 1989, youngs from East Berlin who were used to live in the "dark ages" (I don't need to teach you history... you guys know why...) thought that this whole graffiti thing (who was seen as an abomination at the time and was ilegal) was soo cool and began to learn how to do graffiti writing with the crews from West Berlin... Erik Mahnkopf (a.k.a Steak) and Malte Nickau (a.k.a. Kobolt) were members of the CAF crew (Children Against Frustation a.k.a Crazy Art Fruiters), which belongs to the first generation of graffiti writers in East Berlin... they started in 1990... In 1997 the CAF crew toured by many Eastern European Countries such as Poland, Croatia and Slovenia, etc., to spread graffiti culture in a project that they dubbed "Graffiti Goes East", which consisted in graffiting the S-Trains of those countries ... they founded GRACO in that same year... the CAF crew is credited as one of the several crews that helped popularize graffiti culture amoung youngs in those countries... yep ... they won Popcorn magazine's graffiti competition because they were (and are) good ... now we just need a wiki ... =) ...--Asagoth (talk) 20:29, 20 January 2021 (EST)
- Edit: Interview with Erik Mahnkopf and Malte Nickau on German television dance music show "Feuerreiter" ("Fire Rider") in 1994 (minute 07:09)... In 1992 an hip-hop project called "Swat Posse", managed by young people was formed in Berlin... those involved started the graffiti agency called "GraffitiConnection", which represented a building block for the independent financing of the project... "GRACO" spun off from this structure in 1997... =) ...--Asagoth (talk) 14:39, 23 January 2021 (EST)
